A Route from Paro to
Thimphu (Capital):
The distance from Paro to Thimphu is 65kms. South of
Paro town is called Taju, and further below is
Khangkhu village located very close to Paro
Airport.The road the decends to Bondey and crosses
the Paro chhu near the entrance to the Airport and
to Shaba 3kms ahead where it is a base for wing of
the Royal Bhutan Army.
9kms drive from shaba destined you across the bridge
to the south bank of Paro chhu and to Isuna Village.
From this village we can see Drag Karpo 'the white
cliff', a temple that clings on the rock above and
it is the place where Guru Rinpoche mediated.
Tachogang Lhakhang is located few kms before Chhuzom,
theconfluence of Paro Chhu and Thimphu River.
The confluence at Chhuzom is 24kms from Paro and
18kms from Bondey. The Bhutanese term 'Chhuzom'
means a confluence, Chhu: river and Zom: meet. The
Bhutanese tradition regards a meeting of two rivers
inauspicious, thus there is a presence of 3 very
unique chortens to ward off the inauspiciousness.
The three chortens reflect the 3 different
architectural styles of Nepal, Tibet and Bhutan.
Chhuzom is also a major road Junction which deverts
to Paro, Haa, Phuntsholing and Thimphu.
It is 31 kms from Chhuzom to Thimphu and takes about
1 hr. We drive accross Khasadrapchu, Namseling,
Babesa, Semtokha and finally to Thimphu.
