PARO DZONGKHAG
Paro is a perfect entry to the other land, the land
of the fairy tales. Paro at 2280m lies in the
western Bhutan, one and a half hours drive from the
capital Thimphu. The temperature ranges from -6
degrees in winter and 27 degrees in summer.
Historically, Paro is believed to be one of the
first valleys to have received the imprint of
Buddhism. Kyichu Lhakhang, the 7th century temple
bear witness to the glorious introduction of the
religion in the country. The King Songtsen Goempo of
Tibet built Kyichu in Paro and Jampa Lhakhang in
Bumthang as a missionary project.The ancient Paro
valley has kept its bucolic nature in spite of the
airport and the existence of the development
project.
