Bumthang Cultural Trek
The lovely Bumthang valley is the religious heartland of the nation and home to some of its oldest Buddhist temples and monasteries. This three day trek passes through several villages on its meandering route through Bumthang countryside, and provides an exceptional opportunity for contact with Bhutanese rural life.
Season: The trek is recommended from March to May and then again from September to November.
Arrive Paro – Thimphu:
Day1. On arrival you will be met your Bhutan Men-Lha Adventures and Travelers representative and drive to Thimphu. O/N Hotel in Thimphu.
Thimphu – Trongsa:
Day2. Morning after your breakfast drive to Trongsa across Dochula Pass at (3,140m) and Pelela Pass at(3,300m). En route lunch in Wangduephodrang and continue the drive to Trongsa. O/N hotel in Trongsa
Trongsa – Bumthang.
Day3. Morning visit Trongsa Dzong and the watchtower, that is converted into Museum. Continue your drive to Bumthang, Lunch in Bumthang and after lunch visit Kurjey Monastery, Jambay Lhakhang and Tamzhing Lhakhang. O/N hotel in Bumthang.
Bumthang – Ngalakhang. Trek start.
Day4. The trek begins today, the trek route follows the Chamkhar river (CHU), taking us through meadows, forests of blue pine and scrub bamboo. We will pass by many villages and temples, on this very relaxing and easy day. Camp over night at village of Ngalakhang. (2,900m)
Walking distance: 14kms, 6hours.
Ngalakhang – Ugyen Choeling.
Day5. The trail ascends gradually through juniper forest towards Phephe La Pass at
(3,340m). from there, the path descends to Tang valley. Finally arriving at Ugyenchoeling village (2,850m). Camp over night by the side of Tang River.
Walking Distance: 19kms, 8hours
Ugyen Choeling – Bumthang.
Day6. In the morning walk to the Ugyen Choeling Palace, a beautiful private mansion also houses a small eco-museum, then drive to Jakar(Bumthang) following the Tang River until arriving the main road. On the way visit the mebartsho (burning Lake). Where Terton Pemalingpa has discovered the religious treasures in the 15th Century. Continue your drive to Bumthang and O/N hotel in Bumthang.
Bumthang – Punakha.
Day7. Morning after your breakfast drive to Punakha with lunch en route. Visit Punakha Dzong in the evening and O/N hotel in Punakha.
Punakha – Paro
Day8. Morning drive to Paro via Thimphu. Visit Kyichu Lhakhang and Paro Dzong, National Museum. O/N hotel in Paro.
Paro – Hike to Taktshang Monastery Hike
Day9. One full day Taktshang Monastery Hike, this is one of the most scared religious site in the country. This monastery is built on the cliff above the paro valley with (700m). This site is founded by the Precious master in the 8th century and built in 1692. later in 1998 it was seriously damage by the fire and renovated. It is 5hour hike. You can also spend one whole day visiting near by monastery in this area.

Paro – Depart.
Day10. Early breakfast drive to Paro Airport for your flight to onwards destination.
